Best Time To Visit
The best months are February–March and August–October, when Hanoi’s weather is mild and skies are clear. Spring and autumn avoid the city’s hot summers or cooler winters.
Typical Group Size
Usually designed for private travel or small groups (2–6 guests). We can also scale up for larger parties or special club trips, but still ensuring flexibility and a personalised service.
Budget Level
Each Hanoi tour is fully bespoke. We typically recommend a Considered Budget or Refined Budget to ensure first-class comfort and unique experiences.
Why Urban Chapters in Hanoi?
Hanoi’s charm lies in its blend of ancient and modern. Walking the Old Quarter transports you through a thousand years of history with 15th-century temples, crumbling French-colonial facades & Michelin Star street food, while just beyond the lanes you find contemporary cafés, art galleries and world-class restaurants.
This mix makes Hanoi ideal for an Urban Chapters journey: the city itself tells a story. By day you witness local life around Hoan Kiem Lake or at a wet market; by night you sample street food or upscale bars. Hanoi offers “culture at every corner” and a curated urban canvas for bespoke travel. It is one of our favorite cities and we have tried and tested the experiences we reccomend.

The Hanoi Atmosphere & Pace
Although it seems chaotic at first, Hanoi moves at its own relaxed rythm. Mornings see locals Tai Chi–ing around Hoan Kiem Lake and coffee hours stretching into mid-morning. Streets hum with scooters and vendors by day, but the city’s true beat is busy yet unhurried, letting you linger over egg coffee or rice noodles.
Evenings are vibrant yet poised: buzzing old-quarter eateries and craft bars light up as banyan tree-lined boulevards cool down. In comparison to the country’s south, Hanoi life feels intentionally slower. Vespa’s move like a river flowing through the city, and you can enjoy everything from tranquil mornings (temple visits or café breaks) to lively afternoons (markets and motors) to sophisticated nights (fine dining, cocktails). Each transition highlights Hanoi’s dual nature – bustling yet strangely calm.
Experiences in Hanoi
Highlights in Hanoi are sensory and specific. You might dive into a Vespa street-food tour at night (as we did) zipping through the Old Quarter smelling star anise–infused phở and sizzling bún chả. Or take a cooking class: tour a local market, then learn to make phở or spring rolls with a top chef. For relaxation, spend time at Fairmont Hanoi’s Flow Spa to indulge in Vietnamese herbal treatments and a unique bathhouse ritual.
Evenings can end on a high note—perhaps fine dining at a French‑colonial villa or cocktails on a rooftop overlooking the Red River. Don’t miss out on exploring the local markets for high quality locally made products.
We also recommend venturing outside of Hanoi to play a round of golf (e.g. 36 holes at Vietnam Golf & Country Club) for variety or head to Ha Long Bay for a luxury cruise on countryside detox to Ninh Binh. Each experience is designed to be authentic and layered, giving both adrenaline and ease.

Who this journey is for
Urban Chapters in Hanoi suit the culture-curious luxury traveler. You appreciate history and craft but don’t skimp on comfort – a boutique hotel and private guide are a must. You’re not just a shutterbug; you want stories with your selfies, enjoying local life (like mingling over beers with Hanoians at a bia hơi shop).
You love food—not just any street snacks, but the story behind them. You enjoy mixing activity (market tours, Vespa rides) with pampering (spa or refined dining). These trips best fit people seeking a deep dive into Hanoi’s life at a tailored pace, rather than generic group tours.

Why We Chose Hanoi
Hanoi earns a place in our Urban Chapters portfolio because it embodies Vietnam’s heritage and heart. We chose it for its proven ability to surprise travellers—history around every turn, vibrant craft traditions, and a scene that keeps evolving.
We work with local experts who refine Hanoi itineraries yearly, ensuring each detail (from hidden pho stalls to exclusive spa access) is authentic and exceptional. In fact, our focus on tradition with contemporary comforts echoes Fairmont Spa’s ethos: “blending local essences…with modern precision”.
On our last visit, we took time to test lots of tours, restaurants and hotels in order to advise our clients on the best things to do and see. We personally know the tour guides and hotel managers we recommend and have tasted the incredible gastronomy and street food first hand.
Google will tell you to visit the Hanoi Train Street, we’ll tell you which train street, what restaurant, when and why.
